Metro installs single cylinder locks (key on the outside, turn knob on the inside) and double cylinder locks (keys inside and out) on both wood and metal doors. Single cylinder locks allow easy exit, requiring only a twist of the turn knob; however, single cylinder locks should not be used on doors with or near window panels. It is too easy for an intruder to break the glass, reach around and open your lock. That's why double cylinder locks are sometimes necessary. An intruder, when breaking the glass, would still need a key to open a double cylinder lock from the inside. The disadvantage of a double cylinder lock is that occupants also need the key to open the lock. A special hiding place all occupants know about, near the locked door, is esential in the event of an emergency requiring a quick exit.
